Mums & Bubs Pilates Classes

February 25, 2014 By Chevron Island Physio

mum and bub pilates
Making exercise as manageable as possible for new mums!

Mums and bubs Pilates allows you to bring your newborn along with you to classes. You can stop exercising at any time to feed or comfort your baby as necessary, and re-join the class when you feel comfortable. Your bub can also become part of the exercises if you wish!

Pilates has many benefits, some of which include:

• Improve fitness and strength
• Build core strength to reduce backache
• Help with continence & pelvic floor dysfunctions
• Reshape, tone and lose weight with high intensity, calorie burning exercises after delivery
• Highly trained, experienced instructors
• Personalised programs to suit your needs

How soon can I commence classes?
You need to have a signed medical clearance form from your Obstetrician at your 6 week review before you can start the class.

How do I book an appointment?
Your first appointment will be a 45 minute one on one consultation with Alison, our Women’s Health Physiotherapist, to assess your pelvic floor, discuss your personal history and find out what you want to achieve out of Pilates. Once you have had this initial consultation, you can join any of our one hour Mum and Bubs Pilates Classes (booking essential as classes are limited to 4 participants).

How much does it Cost?
The cost of ongoing classes is $44 per class, or $37 per class for a 20 session pass.
If you have allied health cover with your private health insurance, you should be able to claim some of this cost, as all of our classes are run by experienced physiotherapists.
Please consult with your private health fund to confirm your level of cover.

Warning signs to slow down
If you experience any of these symptoms during, or following an exercise class, or while exercising at home, be sure to notify your physiotherapist.
• Increased fatigue
• Heavy feeling in vagina
• Muscle aches and pains
• Any bright red vaginal blood

Mum and Bub Pilates commences Monday 24 March at 11am. Bookings essential.

Pilates is a safe and social way to return to exercising after the delivery of your baby. We look forward to having you join our classes. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 5504 7000.
