Alison Hanrahan BPhty (Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor)
Alison Hanrahan is the Principal Physiotherapist of Chevron Island Physio. She graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree in 2009 and commenced practicing in one of Brisbane’s leading private practices. Her passion for Physiotherapy stems from a love of physical well-being and fitness. Alison represented at elite level for junior gymnastics before plying her skills with a career as a professional stunt actor.
In addition to providing treatment to her musculoskeletal patients, Alison has an interest in the area of Women’s Health. She has undergone extensive postgraduate training in the areas of pelvic floor rehabilitation for urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, exercise during pregnancy and the post-natal period, and management of pregnancy-related pelvic pain and pelvic floor pain. She can assist women who are pregnant or post-natal, are experiencing pelvic pain or pelvic instability, have difficulty with bladder control or constipation or who are experiencing symptoms of prolapse.
Alison has also completed her Level 1 and 2 in Clinical Pilates. She has worked as a Pilates instructor since 2007 and is regularly found practicing in the Pilates exercise area. Alison strongly encourages Pilates as complementary treatment to general physiotherapy, as it’s a very powerful tool for injury prevention and maintaining long term physical health.
Alison is passionate about helping her patients achieve optimal wellness during all stages of life with compassion and enthusiasm.
Sally Buratowski BPhty (Hons) (Physiotherapist, Pilates Instructor, Physiofusion founder)
Sally owned and operated the Physio & Pilates Exercise Centre at Bundall on the Gold Coast from 2001 – 2012 and the Physio & Pilates Centre at Australia Fair Shopping Centre from 2004 – 2011. She has also worked at numerous other private practices on the gold coast, Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah hospitals and for the Royal Mail in London. She has completed courses in myofascial release, craniosacral balancing, smartball exercise, clinical and non-clinical pilates, acupuncture, lower limb biomechanics, the thoracic spine in sport and sacroiliac joint rebalancing. She has also completed a thesis on the effects of mobilising the neck on shoulder pain.
Sally has extensive experience in all aspects of physiotherapy from acute rehabilitation of injuries, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, chest, physiotherapy, chronic degenerative disease, to performance enhancement in athletes and has treated and trained many world champion athletes in areas such as triathlon, ironman, swimming, and athletics. She treats a significant number of patients who have been referred to her by neurosurgeons and other specialists with good result.
Sally has developed and trademarked a new treatment method called “Physiofusion” which is a combination of physiotherapy-based exercise, Pilates exercises, yoga-like stretching and strength training exercises that gets results up to four times faster than traditional treatments in isolation. This has had extremely good results with both elite athletes and patients who have been in chronic pain for years and have not responded to traditional treatments or who have had unsuccessful surgical intervention. The Physiofusion method has also proven to be very effective in patients with longstanding hip pathology or sacroiliac joint instability as it helps to improve pain, core stability, endurance, motor recruitment patterns and overall function simultaneously.
Susan Bauman BPhty (Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor)
In 1996 Susan graduated from University in the UK, with an honours degree in Physiotherapy. She has extensive experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in Australia, New Zealand and in the UK.
After graduating she worked for the British army specializing in lower limb injuries and still has a special interest in this field. She is a runner herself and before having her two children competed in triathlons ranging from sprint to half iron-man distance.
She has post graduate qualifications in sports physiotherapy has studied acupuncture and uses dry needling to compliment her treatments where appropriate. She has a long list of post graduate courses including Clinical Pilates levels 1-4, Treatment and rehabilitation of spinal dysfunction and Post-orthopaedic surgery.
Simon Ayling (Remedial Massage Therapist, Clinical Pilates Instructor)
Simon has been registered as a remedial massage therapist for 11 years. During this time he has specialized in sports massage and the treatment of chronic conditions, including pre/post operative treatment. He has a strong commitment to ongoing education having completed numerous courses in physical assessment and treatment.
Simon understands the importance of general and rehabilitative exercise in maintaining and improving his client’s health and wellbeing. He has completed levels 1- 4 in clinical Pilates and holds certificates in Fitness leader and gym instructor, Level 1 sports trainer and sports first aide. Simon has been instructing clinical Pilates for 10 years.
Simon has also completed extensive self-education in nutrition and chronic disease pathologies to enable him to use a more holistic approach when treating his patients. He has completed a workshop in real time ultrasound, and maintains a close association with the Australian Institute of Ultrasound.
Simon’s passion for sports massage and treatment encouraged him to create his own stretching book to assist his clients with self management. He is the author of Simply Stretch, a stretching book that provides people with an easy to follow full body stretching routine.
Kasey Boorman BHlthSci(Nut) (Nutritionist, Practice Manager)
Kasey completed her Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition) in 2007 at Queensland’s University of Technology. She also holds a Bachelor degree in Primary Education and utilises this when working with her younger clients. Kasey’s focus is on helping people make a lifestyle change and achieving optimal wellness with increased quality of life. Her primary market is weight loss and loves helping people reach their weight loss goals through real food and exercise. No diet pills, shakes or ‘quick fixes’, she helps clients lose weight by educating them and finding out what works for each individual. Kasey can help you with: weight loss, general health and nutrition, allergies, pre and post pregnancy, diabetes, children’s nutrition and more.
Kelsey Armstrong (Remedial Massage Therapist, Clinical Pilates Instructor)
Kelsey has over 8 years’ experience as a Remedial Massage Therapist practicing out of both a gym setting as well as a multidisciplinary clinic. A strong passion for sport related injuries and rehabilitation is what drove her into the field. This passion led Kelsey to complete a Clinical Pilates and Mat Pilates course in 2014, enabling her to work with her patients on a holistic level. Kelsey runs rehabilitation classes as well as fitness classes ensuring each individual is catered for on a personal level.
Her Remedial Massage techniques include a combination of myofascial release, joint mobilization, visceral therapy, deep tissue/sport massage, trigger point therapy and Swedish techniques. She also has experience with pregnancy, cancer patients, scar tissue and more! Kelsey’s ultimate goal is to help you get active and stay active.
Wade Ellis (Podiatrist)
Wade completed a Bachelors of Health Science at Griffith University on the Gold Coast and complemented this with a Bachelors degree in Podiatry at Brisbane’s Queensland University of Technology. Wade provides professional diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.
Wade cares for patients of all ages and varying conditions resulting from postural and gait abnormalities, bone and joint disorders, soft tissue and muscular pathologies, as well as neurological and circulatory disorders.
Wade currently works with the Southport Sharks Football Club and has previously assisted both the Gold Coast Blaze Basketball Team and the Gold Coast United Football Club.
Wade commonly treats patients who require a gait analysis or have lower limb concerns such as Bunions, Severs Disease, Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, Achilles Pain, Shin Splints, Morton’s Neuroma, Lower Limb Arthritis, Corns, Callous, Dystrophic Nails, Diabetic Feet and Ingrown Nails.
Gillian Burgess(Physiotherapist, Women’s Health Special Interest)
Gillian is a recent addition to the Chevron Island Physio team. She graduated from Griffith University Gold Coast at the end on 2015 with a Master of Physiotherapy / Bachelor of Exercise Science. Gillian has worked not only in private physiotherapy practice but continues to work in the hospital setting as well. She feels privileged to be able to share her knowledge and experience with patients to improve their well-being and quality of life.
Gillian’s main interest is musculoskeletal therapy, however she shares an interest in Women’s Health.
Gillian not only uses her Women’s Health experience to treat private patient’s but she can also be found at the hospital running antenatal classes and providing acute care for maternity patients.
Outside of physiotherapy, Gillian loves to keep active and enjoys a wide range of sport from surfing to mountain biking and just about everything in between. Coming from a high level sporting background in mountain biking to now treating and working with several professional athletes, Gillian understands the importance of feeling 100% and loves helping patients of all ages and skill levels achieve their goals.
Rhonda Li (Dietician)
Rhonda completed her Master of Dietetic Studies at the University of Queensland and holds a Bachelor degree in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences.
Rhonda advocates for a holistic approach to health and provides nutrition services in a range of different areas such as chronic disease management, weight management and food allergies and intolerances.
She has experience working with patients of all ages and collaborates with her patients to create sustainable lifestyle changes to advance health. She is very committed to professional development and always delivers nutrition services based on the latest evidence. Rhonda also has a keen interest in sports nutrition and is currently working towards her Level 1 ISAK Accreditation which would allow her to monitor body composition changes and combine it with dietary interventions to help her patients achieve their health and nutritional goals.
Jessica Hartenthaler (Physiotherapist)
Jessica completed her Masters of Physiotherapy at Griffith University, with an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science. She has a special interest in musculoskeletal conditions and sporting injuries, and has experience working with sporting teams on the gold coast. With a strong exercise background, she is passionate about helping you meet your wellness goals. Jessica is a positive and caring therapist that will leave you smiling.
Carol Cronin-Wedenberg (Yoga Instructor)
Carol is a positive and vibrant instructor who we feel lucky to have teaching with us.
Carol gained her accreditation in Rishikeshi India for Hatha Yoga, Astanga yoga and Vinyasa/Astanga modified yoga and has adapted her sessions to cater for various client’s specific needs. She has been fortunate to attended numerous workshops designed for healing, health and rejuvenation towards improving her teaching methods to guide practitioners safely, such as the ability to use props to assist with modifications of specific posture.
